Motorola Mobile Devices

  • Motorola announced plans to split into two separate, publicly traded companies in 2009. Motorola Mobile Devices will continue to produce cell phones and gadgets while Motorola Broadband Mobility Solutions will sell software and communications equipment to businesses. The company has fallen on hard times after being unable to compete with Nokia and Apple in the mobile device market, having failed to come up with a suitable follow-up to the once-popular Razr line of phones. The current Motorola CEO is Greg Brown, but it has been suggested that a replacement may be found to head up the new Mobile Devices company. Keith Meister will take control of Mobility Solutions.
