Motorola Broadband Mobility Solutions

    • Icahn holds 6.3% of Motorola's shares
  • Motorola has announced plans to split into two companies in 2009, at the urging of investor (and second-largest Motorola shareholder) Carl Icahn. The new plan involves the creation of Motorola Mobile Devices, which will market cell phones like the companies once-popular Razr line, and Motorola Broadband Mobility Solutions, which will sell communications software and equipment to companies. Icahn, who will likely emerge from the deal controlling four seats on the Motorola company's boards, plans to appoint Keith Meister to head Broadband Mobility Solutions. A chief executive for Mobile Devices has yet to be chosen, but will probably not be current Motorola CEO Greg Brown.
