    Fatalities, which were notoriously gory in previous Mortal Kombat games, have been mellowed down to fit a Teen rating.     Mortal Kombat vs. DC Universe features 22 total characters, 11 from each universe. The characters were chosen based on how well their stories and abilities meshed, as well as general popularity with fans.

    The storyline varies depending on which side the player chooses. The Mortal Kombat story takes place in the MK universe with the invasion of the DC characters. The DC story is just the opposite. This merger of the two universes is made possible by a "cataclysmic event".
