Mortal Kombat vs. DC Universe was first announced at Midway Gamer's Day in Las Vegas on April 18, 2008. Ed Boon, co-creator of the Mortal Kombat franchise said in a statement that the game will feature no fatalities and little blood so it can stay in line with a T (Teen) rating from the ESRB.

• As the teaser trailer starts up, the famous MK logo starts to slowly appear across the screen with a lightning storm brewing in the background. The words "This Fall" and "Worlds Will Collide" fade in. After a moment, part of the DC logo appears, then "And The Fate" ... "Of The Universe" zooms in. The MK logo appears again as Sub-Zero is kicking Batman in the stomach. Now the DC logo is back on screen, while Batman is now punching and uppercutting Sub-Zero. "Shell Be Decided" fades in and the MK and DC logos are back to back. Sub-Zero and Batman are fighting again, and after a few seconds go by, they start fighting in mid-air. After Batman slams Sub-Zero to the ground, both of their profile pictures pop up.
