Moon Shoes are shoes that act as miniature trampolines, allowing the user to jump and bounce. The product has been criticized both for its potential danger, and for its perceived lack of spring-power (it doesn't provide much more height than spring-less jumping). Visually, Moon Shoes resemble traditional Japanese platform shoes, but with encased springs instead of elevated platforms. It is suggested that safety equipment like helmets and elbow pads be worn when using moon shoes.
History
Moon Shoes first appeared on the late-80s/early-90s Nickelodeon children's game show Double Dare. Through a Nickelodeon licensing agreement, they were first marketed in the Holiday season of 1992.
Possible Educational Benefit
Moon shoes have been billed as having "anti-gravity effects" that may simulate walking on the Moon, as well as helping a child to gain balance and coordination. They have been suggested as a possible form of play therapy for hyperactive children.
