The Montreal Canadiens are a professional hockey team that plays in the Northeast Division of the Eastern Conference of the National Hockey League. Their 24 Stanley Cup wins is the most in the history of the NHL.
Beginning in 1953, the Canadiens won the Stanley Cup 16 of the following 27 seasons. This included a four year consecutive streak from 1976 to 1979. Over the years, they had help from several NHL legends including Maurice Richard, Toe Blake and Jacques Plante. Hockey Hall of Fame coach Scotty Bowman led the team for five of those championships, starting in 1973. In 1993, Patrick Roy led the team to their 24th Stanley Cup by winning ten consecutive overtime games.
