Monounsaturated fats are considered a "good fat", because they raise HDL (so-called "good") cholesterol levels without elevating LDL (so-called "bad") cholesterol levels in the blood. They reduce the risk of heart disease. In 1998, a study from the Archives of Internal Medicine indicated monounsaturated fats also reduced the risk of breast cancer.
