Ridley Scott plans to direct a feature film based on the popular board game Monopoly. The film will be a collaboration between Universal Studios and Hasbro, the toy company behind the game. Pamela Pettler, the writer behind Monster House and Corpse Bride, will pen the screenplay.

Adapting toys or games into feature films has long been a popular idea. Many fans will recall the 1980s big-screen adaptations of the board game Clue and the He-Man line of action figures. More recently, Michael Bay had a great deal of success with his Transformers movie, the sequel for which will be released in June of 2009.
