Moleskine refers both to Moleskine notebooks, and the company Moleskine Srl which produces these notebooks. Moleskine notebooks have features and are designed to be similar to notebooks used by famous people such as: Pablo Picasso, Oscar Wilde and Vincent Van Gogh. Moleskine Srl produces a large lineup of notebooks, available in different sizes, lined, grid style or blank, as well as daily planner, travel guides and other limited edition notebooks.
Moleskine notebooks are designed in Italy. Most are produced in China, although some large format notebooks are produced in Turkey. The Moleskine trademark was created by Modo&Modo (a Milanese publisher) in 1997. SGCapital Europe purchased Modo&Modo in the fall of 2006 and created the company Moleskine Srl, which then acquired worldwide trademark rights to the Moleskine brand.
Moleskine Notebooks have an active fan community who have modified the notebooks in various ways, including laser etching or embossing the cover, making integrated pen holders, and even custom templates and pages to use in the notebooks.
The web site for Moleskine Srl is www.moleskine.com, and they also appear on various social networking sites.
