Mojito

  • A mojito is a rum-based cocktail made with mint, sugar, lime, tonic water, and optional crushed ice. It is a type of highball that originates from Cuba. Created at famed Havana restaurant La Bodeguita del Medio, the clear cocktail's sweet flavor and potent alcoholic kick have made it a popular drink, particularly in the summer.
  • Preparation

Start off by adding sugar, lime juice, and mint leaves to a highball glass. Using a muddler ( a tool similar to a pestle), crush the mint leaves until they are somewhat fine and have mixed with the sugar and lime juice. Add the crushed ice if you will be using any, then add your choice of rum, preferably a clear rum, then top it with club soda. Garnish with an uncrushed mint sprig, add a straw, and serve.
