Legal Problems
The band fired Matthew Katz, their manager, in 1967. He then began an almost 40 year legal battle, claiming that he owned the rights to the name Moby Grape. This was finally settled in 2005 with the remaining band members winning the right to use the Moby Grape name. In 2007, they re-released three albums on the Sundazed label. They then found themselves back in court when Katz challenged their right to the album artwork.NPR: Moby Grape

Critical Reception
""It's one of the few rock 'n' roll albums of any era that you can say, 'That is a perfect debut album.' The songwriting on it is memorable — you take those songs with you wherever you go. The triple-guitar orchestration....it's not just power chords. Everyone is playing melodies and counter-melodies and rhythms. Very funky, also very country, very punk, very surf. And they were all singers."NPR: Moby Grape
