The Hip Hop group Mobb Deep is an American hip hop duo. They have also been known “The Infamous Mobb Deep”. They met while attending the High School of Art and Design in Manhattan, New York in the 90's. Prodigy and Havoc soon became friends and began writing rap music. Originally dubbing themselves the Poetical Profits, the duo later changed its name to Mobb Deep in order to "reflect their reputation on the streets."
The duo is best know for its dark, hardcore delivery of their music style. When they caught the attention of Q-Tip, they signed a record deal and released their debut album, Juvenile Hell. They were only 17 years old when this album was released.
This album did not have much success, but they found a new recording label, Loud Records, and recorded the single "Temperature’s Rising". Their debut album for this label was released in 1995 and hit the Top 20 and then went to gold.
Mobb Deep started Infamous Records in the late 1990s, but it did not get an imprint deal until 2004 and is now a subsidiary of G-Unit Records. In June 2005, Prodigy and Havoc surprised fans when the duo announced that it had signed with 50 Cent's label G-Unit Records.
Even though Mobb Deep has not been as successful as many of their peers commercially, the majority of their albums have been critically acclaimed.
