  • With its popularity growing Mixed Martial Arts (MMA) is a well known group of fighting techniques used in cage fighting. Mixed Martial Arts utilizes full contact combat and a diverse array of fighting techniques. The preferred disciplines used in MMA fighting are Stand-up, ground, and clinch.

    The sport continually evolves to determine the most effective fight strategies possible. Mixed Martial Arts was used by man as far back as 648 B.C. Actual MMA fighting competitions started in the 1800's and had very few rules. As MMA fighting evolved, so did the rules. Every few years more rules and regulations are added to MMA competitions for the safety of the fighters.

    The Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) is the largest promoter of Mixed Martial Arts in the world. Ultimate Fighter is a popular reality television show where fighters compete for a spot in the UFC. In 1992 the first ever Ultimate Fighting Championship took place.

  • Rules

    Striking and Grappling are the two techniques, that are within the rules, used to submit or knock out opponents. As the sport has gained popularity rules for safety have been put in place including divided weight classes, glove requirements, and referee stoppage before the fight becomes brutal.
