  • Mississippi State University is an instution of higher learning that offers undergraduate and graduate degrees. It is home to the state's only professional architecture school and Mississippi's only college of veterinary medicine.
  • University History

    The school was originally founded as The Agricultural and Mechanical College of the State of Mississippi in 1878 by the Mississippi Legislature. In the early 1900s, the college expanded, adding its science and business schools, among others. It was renamed in 1932, as Mississippi State College. It earned its university status in 1958, shortly after graduate forestry and art programs were added. The school has continued to grow in the years since, adding their architecture program in 1973 and veterinary program in 1977.
