Miss Landmine Survivor Beauty Pageant was created by Morten Traavik after visiting Angola in 2003. The Miss Landmine Manifesto:
1. Female pride and empowerment
2. Disabled pride and empowerment
3. Global and local landmine awareness and information
4. Challenge inferiority and/or guilt complexes that hinder creativity
5. Question established concepts of physical perfection
6. Challenge old and ingrown concepts of cultural cooperation
7. Celebrate true beauty
8. Replace the passive term 'Victim' with the active term 'Survivor'
