Katie Stam, Miss Indiana, was declared Miss America on January 24, 2009. She battled laryngitis through the entire event, but ultimately won the $50,000 scholarship and the title of Miss America. Stam plans on using the scholarship money to complete her Communications degree at the University of Indiana.
