Stash points in the game, Mirror's Edge, are the locations of the hidden bags. The bags are collectible items scattered throughout the levels to give players a challenge above and beyond the central mission. In Mirror's Edge, a large chunk of the story revolves around the bags, what's inside of them, and the people who transport them. The main character, Faith, is one of these transporters, called runners. The runners were formed to fill a need for the quick and discreet transport of sensitive information, due to the government's control and monitoring of all basic communication channels.The Mirror's Edge Wiki: Story
The increased government interference became a way of life gradually. Faith's parents were staunch activists who tried to fight the onslaught, until her mother was among many killed during a protest rally. After the rally, the people seemed to accept the new way of life with little complaint. The runners operated with little problem until the events at the beginning of game, in which Faith's sister is kidnapped. Suddenly the government is taking a keen interest in runners and hunting them down aggressively.
