Film production and distribution company Miramax was founded in 1979 by brothers Bob and Harvey Weinstein. The two left the company in 2005 to start The Weinstein Company. Miramax is now a wholly-owned subsidiary of The Walt Disney Company.
The company remains an important production and distribution studio for independent film.
