Life and Career
Mira Nair was raised in India and attended Delhi University before moving to America where she met long time collaborator Sooni Taraporevala.
Her first big success was Salaam Bombay (1988), which was nominated for an Academy Award.
She then made her entrance into Hollywood with Mississippi Masala (1991), which starred Denzel Washington and Sarita Choudhury.
In 2001 she scored another hit with Monsoon Wedding, and in 2007 she released The Namesake.
She is currently working on Shantaram, which is set to star Johnny Depp and Amitabh Bachchan.
