  • The Minutemen were a part of the LA Punk scene in the early 1980s. Although the band never gained much mainstream notoriety, they played a huge influence on many later punk bands. The band was comprised of singer and guitarist D. Boon, singer and bassist Mike Watt and George Hurley on Drums. Boon died in a 1985 van accident and the band fell apart soon after. Watt and Hurley went on to form fIREHOSE.
  • Style and Influence

Although the Minutemen were part of the punk scene—and sometimes called a hardcore band, due to the fact that they peaked during that movement's heyday—the band played music that remains among the most unique and indefinable in all of rock. Their music incorporated the hard funk of George Clinton, along with free-jazz, political folk and avant-garde sounds. The unique result has influenced the Red Hot Chili Peppers, Fugazi, Sublime and many other well-known bands.
