Mineral makeup is made of finely ground minerals such as mica, zinc oxide and titanium dioxide. It is made for all types of cosmetics including foundation, concealer, eye shadow, eyeliner and blush.http://www.webmd.com/health-ehome-9/mineral-makeup Most often it is in a powder form and is considered by some to be better for the skin.
Smaller companies that specialized in natural makeup first brought mineral powders to the market. However, the success of mineral makeup led to larger cosmetics firms developing their own mineral lines, these companies include Revlon, Covergirl and L'Oreal.
Dermatologists recommend mineral makeup for patients with skin disorders because it is claimed that it does not clog pores or irritate the skin, due to the elimination of irritants such as fragrances, synthetic dies, binders and preservatives. Critics state it is drying and can add years to the skin because it accentuates wrinkles.http://www.webmd.com/health-ehome-9/mineral-makeup

How to Apply Mineral Makeup
Emily Noel takes us through the sequence of steps recommended by her from applying mineral makeup. The initial foundation she applies is a base layer of medium beige followed by beige, which she applies over her entire face, stressing that she gently builds a few layers.
Bisque is used next as a concealer, mainly used to cover the under eye area, for shaping the nose and to cover any small blemishes. Emily then finishes by applying a final layer of the beige base over her entire face.
Finally she uses a blush to lift and highlight cheekbones, brow, nose ridge and chin and follows with a bronzer to achieve the contour she wants.
