After the death of Barbara Dainton in November 2007, Elizabeth Gladys Dean, known as Millvina, became the last living survivor of the Titanic disaster. Dean was only nine weeks old when she was put into a lifeboat as the RMS Titanic was sinking. Dean died on May 31, 2009, on the 98th anniversary of the Titanic's official launching in 1911. She died at he age of 97 in an English nursing home. Memorabilia related to Dean's ill-fated Titanic journey was expected to be auctioned off on October 18, 2008, in hopes that proceeds would help pay Dean's nursing home costs.
