Mike Whitmarsh was a former professional beach volleyball player who won a silver medal in the 1996 Summer Olympics. On February 17, 2009, the 46-year-old Whitmarsh was found dead in his home in Solana Beach, California. According to the San Diego county medical examiner's office, a friend found Whitmarsh unresponsive in a car inside the garage of his home.
