Mike Weir

Mike Weir is a professional golfer on the PGA tour. He has been a part of the PGA since 1998 and has been a professional golfer since 1992.He was born in Sarnie, Ontario on May 12, 1970 and played as a professional on the Canadian Tour prior to joining the PGA. Weir currently resides in Sandy, Utah with his wife and two children. In 1999 Weir took his first PGA title with his participation in the Air Canada Championship. The victory came with a two stroke victory over golfer Fred Funk. This made him the first Canadian to win on tour since Richard Zokol in 1992, and the first to win in his home country, Canada, since Pat Fletcher won the Canadian Open in 1954. He was name to the President's Cup in 2003, 2005, and 2007, where he won over Tiger Woods, in Canada. Weir's defining moment in golf was when he proved himself to be one of the best in the world by taking his first Masters victory in 2003. Mike Weir's Achievements Inside and Out of the Golf World

Mike Weir has had success on many different tours, including the PGA Tour, The Canadian Tour, and other International tours. He was the Canadian Tour rookie of the year in 1993. Winning the Canadian TPC. As of 2009 Weir had 290 PGA Tour events, making the cut 213 times. He had eight wins, eight second place finishes, seven third place finishes and 61 top ten finishes. In 1997 he led the Canadian Tour with the fewest average strokes per round, also in Canada he was awarded the Lionel Conacher award in 2000, 2001, and 2003 as Canada's male athlete of the year. In addition to the 2003 Masters, Weir also won the Lou Marsh trophy for Canada's outstanding athlete that year. Finally in 2009, Weir became an inductee into the Canadian Golf Hall of Fame. Weir has also used his success as a vehicle to help families in need with the creation of the "Mike Weir Foundation" in 2004. This foundation started a national fund raising program that supports the Children's Miracle Network. The first "Golf Drive" held by Mike Weir in 2007 to support kids raised $562,000 for the Children's Hospital of Western Ontario.
