Canadian professional hockey player Mike Smith plays in the National Hockey League with the Tampa Bay Lightning.
Smith was in goal for the Lightning during a shootout in a December 18, 2008, game against the Colorado Avalanche. In the process of stopping a shootout attempt from Avalanche player Milan Hejduk, Smith threw his stick. NHL Career
Smith was drafted 161st overall in the 2001 NHL draft by the Dallas Stars. He played one additional season with his junior team, the Sudbury Wolves of the Ontario Hockey League, before joining the Stars' American Hockey League affiliate, the Utah Grizzlies, in 2002. Smith then played one season each with the Houston Aeros and the Iowa Stars, then made his NHL debut with the Dallas Stars in 2006. He continued with the Stars until February 26, 2008, when he was traded to the Tampa Bay Lightning.
