  • Mike Smith was the lead singer of British pop band The Dave Clark Five. Idolizing Little Richard as a child, he befriended Dave Clark when they were both youths playing soccer. Smith had sustained a spinal cord injury at his home in Spain in 2003, and complications from this injury manifested themselves in the form of a chest infection that hospitalized him in London. He died of pneumonia on February 28, 2008, just two weeks before The Dave Clark Five's induction to the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.
