Sillinger was drafted 11th overall in the 1989 NHL draft by the Detroit Red Wings. He made his NHL debut with the Wings in 1990 and continued with the team until April 4, 1995, when he was traded to the Mighty Ducks of Anaheim. Just short of a year later, Sillinger was traded again, to the Vancouver Canucks on March 15, 1996. The Canucks sent him to the Philadelphia Flyers next, on February 5, 1998. He played 52 games in Philadelphia between two seasons before he was traded yet again, to the Tampa Bay Lightning on December 12, 1998. Sillinger stayed with the Lightning until 2001, when he spent short periods with the Florida Panthers and the Vancouver Canucks, then was sent to the Columbus Blue Jackets, where he played for two seasons. He went to the Phoenix Coyotes in 2003, then the St. Louis Blues in 2004. On January 30, 2006, the Blues sent Sillinger to the Nashville Predators, where he completed the 2005-06 season.
