On January 3, 2009, News agencies reported that the Dallas Cowboys would consider Mike Shanahan as the leading candidate for the team if they fired current head coach Wade Phillips. Owner Jerry Jones has stated that he has no intention of firing Wade Phillips. According to team sources, if Shanahan is available in 2010 and the team is looking to change coaches Shanahan would be high on their list as a replacement.ESPN.com: Jones might pursue Shanahan as coach (January 3, 2009)
