He previously served as the head coach of the San Francisco 49ers. Nolan started as a player and was a letterman three times at the University of Oregon as a safety.
Brief Biography
Playing in the secondary at the University of Oregon, Nolan started coaching in 1981 at his alma-mater as the graduate assistant. He moved on to coach for Stanford University making his debut with the Denver Broncos under Dan Reeves in 1987. Nolan was the defensive coordinator for a number of years becoming the head coach for the 49ers in 2005. In his first season as head coach, Nolan went 4-12, and did not have a winning season before he was fired on October 20, 2008.
