All-star forward Mike Modano plays professional hockey for the Detroit Red Wings in the National Hockey League. After spending 20 seasons with the Dallas Stars, the team announced that they would not offer Modano a contract extension for the 2010-11 season. The Red Wings offered Modano a contract, however he took several weeks to decide whether he wished to continue playing or retire. Career Highlights
Mike Modano was drafted out of the Prince Albert Raiders of the Western Hockey League first overall in the 1988 NHL Draft by the Minnesota North Stars. He made his NHL debut the following year, then helped the North Stars reach the Stanley Cup Finals in 1991. In 1993, Modano was selected for his first of seven NHL All-Star Game appearances, then relocated with the team was they moved and became the Dallas Stars.
He helped the Stars win the Stanley Cup in 1999. The winning goal scored by Brett Hull has been known as the "No Goal" as it was scored in violation of NHL rules, but was allowed anyways. The Stars returned to the Cup Finals in 2000, where they were defeated by the New Jersey Devils. On March 17, 2007, Modano scored his 502nd and 503rd goals, making him the all-time U.S.-born goal scoring leader.
