Mike McConnell is a United States Navy Admiral who currently serves as the United States Director of National Intelligence. He became the center of attention in 2007 when he disclosed details of the National Security Agency's wiretapping program.
Wire Tap Controversy
In August of 2007, a temporary law was passed which gave the U.S. government more power to eavesdrop on international communications via warrantless wiretap. Though it was originally claimed that it had contributed directly to the arrests of several German terror suspects, McConnell later admitted that wasn't the case. The controversy raised questions about the policies of the Bush Administration and the NSA.
