Previous Accomplishments
Johanns got his start in local politics in the Lincoln, Nebraska area, serving on the city council and being elected mayor. Johanns also served as Nebraska's 38th governor. The son of a dairy farmer, Johanns was appointed as secretary of the USDA on January 21, 2005. At the USDA, he debuted the MyPyramid.gov nutrition site, helped the U.S.-Dominican Republic-Central America Free Trade Agreement pass and advocated for biofuels such as corn-based ethanol.USDA: Secretary Mike Johanns -
