Mike Fontenot is a second baseman for the Chicago Cubs. After starring at Salmen High School in Louisiana, the Tampa Bay Rays selected Fontenot in the 21st round of the 1999 amateur draft. He declined a contract however, choosing to play college baseball at Louisiana State University instead. Following his collegiate career, the Baltimore Orioles picked him with the 19th overall selection in the 1st round of the 2001 amateur draft. Fontenot never played for the Orioles however, as he was traded to the Cubs with David Crouthers, Jerry Hairston and cash, in exchange for Sammy Sosa and cash. Fontenot made his major league debut for the Cubs on April 13, 2005.
Strengths
Fontenot plays hard, and makes consistent contact at the plate.[1]
Weaknesses
Fontenot lacks power, and is not much of a base stealer.[1]
