Fisher was drafted by the Ottawa Senators as the 44th overall pick during the second round of the 1998 NHL entry draft. He joined the team for the 1999-2000 season, but a knee injury limited his play to 32 games. He played 60 games and earned 19 points the following year and then recorded 24 points in 58 games during the 2001-2002 season.After returning from the locked out 2004-2005 season, Fisher recorded a minimum of 40 points each year for the next three seasons. Shortly before the beginning of the 2007-2008 season, Fisher signed a five-year $21 million contract extension with the Senators.
