Mike Enzi is a U.S. Senator from Wyoming. A Republican, Enzi became the Senior Senator from his state after the death of his colleague Craig L. Thomas in June of 2007. Enzi won re-election to his Senate seat in 2008, defeating challenger Christopher Rothfuss.
Early Life
After graduating from George Washington University in Washington, D.C. in 1966, Enzi joined the Wyoming Air National Guard. In 1968, Enzi earned an M.B.A. in retail marketing from the University of Colorado at Boulder.
Political Career
Enzi's first political position was as the Mayor of Gillette, Wyoming from 1975 to 1982. After stints in the Wyoming House of Representatives and Wyoming Senate in the 1980s and 1990s, Enzi ran for the Senate seat vacated by Alan Simpson. He defeated the Democratic challenger Kathy Karpan, and in his 2002 re-election bid, Enzi won in a landslide.
