Brown was fined $25,000 by the NBA on February 12, 2009 for criticizing game officials. The fine stems from a February 10, 2009, game in which LeBron James fouled Danny Granger of the Indiana Pacers, leading to Granger to score the game winning point in the 96-95 Cavaliers loss. Mike Brown became an assistant coach for the Denver Nuggets in 1992. He also assisted coaching with the Washington Wizards before being hired by the San Antonio Spurs in 2000. Brown was with the Spurs when the team won the NBA Finals in 2003, after which he was hired by the Indiana Pacers as an assistant.Brown was hired to his first head coaching job in 2005 with the Cleveland Cavaliers. He coached the team to the 2007 NBA Finals, the franchise's first Finals appearance.
