Mike Barnicle

Prominent Boston-based columnist and pundit Mike Barnicle got his start at the Boston Globe in 1974. He now appears frequently on many national talk shows, and writes a regular column for the Boston Herald.

Plagiarism and Sources Scandals

Barnicle's regular column feature, "I Was Just Thinking", which consisted of brief quips from Barnicle, was found in 1998 to feature a number of items that appeared in George Carlin's book Brain Droppings. Barnicle claimed he never read the book, but researchers soon found a video clip of Barnicle giving the book an overwhelmingly positive review. Barnicle was suspended from the Globe for two months. Shortly thereafter, it was found that he'd fabricated a story about a child dying from cancer. Barnicle was fired from the Globe.
