  • Plot Synopsis

Lenny, played by Woody Allen, is a New York sportswriter trapped in an unhappy marriage with Amanda, played by Helena Bonham Carter. Restless, he decides to locate the biological mother of his adopted son. Lenny succeeds in locating the mother, Linda Ash, played by Mira Sorvino; but rather than the brilliant woman he anticipated, Linda is a hooker/porn star and is decidedly not brilliant. Still, Lenny recognizes a goodness in Linda and sets out to make her happy. The film follows him as he sets Linda up with a variety of different men while trying to keep his own marriage together in the wake of his wife's infidelity. Throughout all of it, a Greek chorus, led by F. Murray Abraham, drops in to narrate action and warn against foolish decisions.http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0113819/awards

"Dominated by a striking performance from Mira Sorvino as a sweet-tempered hooker who gets a break from an unexpected source, this second Allen picture for Miramax retreads familiar turf, both geographically and neurotically, and appears destined for just OK biz outside the bastions of the filmmaker's loyal supporters."—Todd McCarthy, Varietyhttp://www.variety.com/review/VE1117910019.html?categoryid=31&cs=1

"The same ol' Woody, though not as effective as some of his past work."—Michael DeQuina, Mr. Brown's Movieshttp://mrbrownmovies.com/movierpt10.html#aphrodite
