Michigan Technological Universities|University is a public school located in Michigan's upper peninsula. The school's sports teams are part of the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference and the Western Collegiate Hockey Association.
University History
Originally established as the Michigan Mining School, the college opened in 1885 to train local copper miners. The school was expanded in the early 1930s to include a variety of engineering programs. It was later, in 1964, that the school became Michigan Technological University, upgrading its status from college to university. The school has grown in the decades since in enrollment, variety of degree programs and campus size. As of fall 2007, the school is home to over 6,700 students who can study 120 different degree programs on its 925 acre campus.Official Site: Facts at a Glance
