Life and Career
Williams was born in Montana and was the youngest of five children. By the age of 15, she had committed herself to an acting career and left high school. After being featured in a few supporting film and TV roles, she landed her big break in 1998 with a series regular role on the show Dawson's Creek, which lasted six seasons.Williams continued to appear in various independent film and television productions, both during and after her stint on Dawson's Creek, and reached another milestone in her career when she was offered the part of Alma in Ang Lee's Brokeback Mountain. She received a best supporting actress Oscar nomination for the role.
Williams and Ledger
While on the set of Brokeback Mountain, Williams met actor Heath Ledger. The two soon became romantically involved and shortly after, had a child, Matilda Rose Ledger. In September 2007, the two broke up and shortly after, Ledger died on January 22, 2008 of an accidental prescription drug overdose.Williams and Jonze
On July 24, 2008, it was reported that Williams and director Spike Jonze are dating. According to reports, the two were spotted on several occasions near Jonze's New York apartment.
