Wie was previously limited to playing only six LPGA events as well as in the U.S. Women's Open and the Women's British Open. Wie plans on playing a full LPGA tour schedule now that she has her tour card. Wie stated, I play whenever I want now, not when I have to play, or only six tournaments. I can pick and choose. A golfer since the age of four, Michelle Wie has been golfing professionally since 2005. Wie has played in PGA and LPGA tournaments and holds the record for being the youngest player to make a cut in an LPGA major tournament.

After withdrawing from Stanford University in March of 2008 to focus on her golf, Wie received her LPGA tour card in December of that same year. In 2009, Wie turned things around during her rookie LPGA year with a win at the Lorena Ochoa Invitational.
