Michelle Phan has become known as an "internet sensation" for her Youtube channel featuring make-up tutorials. From her Lady Gaga Poker Face tutorial to her Halloween make-up tutorials (such as Seductive Vampire and Michael Jackson), her videos have been viewed over 50 million times worldwide. jedroot.com[1] After demonstrating tutorials showing how to treat acne with crushed aspirin and an egg yolk facial, she worked with a dermatologist to produce her own skincare line IQQU.

Michelle had early cosmetics training as a child in her mother's beauty salon, painting flowers on to acrylic tips. But after a family breakup and frequent moving, Michelle retreated into art and forged an identity through it. She believes that make-up is form of art, and that the face is a canvas. Michelle attended Ringling College of Art and Design where she specialized in illustration, and made her first video in May 2007. But it wasn't until her online popularity started that she decided to fully embrace the make-up industry.

Michelle did make-up for Lancome for the Chris Benz show at New York Fashion Week in 2009. In October 2009 Michelle was taken on by the agency Jed Root.
