Career
Originally a touring keyboardist for Amy Grant, Michael W. Smith pursued a solo career following the success of Michael W. Smith Project, which featured the song "Friends."Smith's subsequent albums have consistently charted in the Top 10 of the Billboard Top Christian Albums charts, and he has had some success as a crossover artist. In 1991, his song "Place In This World" hit #6 on the Hot 100, and "I Will Be Here For You" topped the Adult Contemporary charts the following year.
Smith has remained a favorite in the Christian music industry, having won multiple Dove Awards since his career began.
