  • NHL Career

    Rupp was drafted ninth overall in the 1998 NHL draft by the New York Islanders. He continued to play for his junior team, the Erie Otters of the Ontario Hockey League after the draft. Rupp and the Islanders were unable to reach a contract agreement and Rupp re-entered the NHL draft. He was selected 76th overall in the 2000 NHL draft by the New Jersey Devils. Rupp joined the Devils' American Hockey League affiliate, the Albany River Rats, and played there for two seasons before making his NHL debut with the Devils in 2002. During the 2003 Stanley Cup Finals, Rupp scored the Cup-clinching goal as the Devils won their third championship in nine years. He continued with the Devils until March 5, 2004, when he was sent to the Phoenix Coyotes. Rupp played only seven games with the Coyotes over two seasons before he was traded to the Columbus Blue Jackets on October 8, 2005. On July 10, 2006, Rupp returned to the Devils by signing with the team as a free agent.
