Actor and comedian Michael Richards earned three Emmy Awards for his portrayal of Cosmo Kramer on the 1990s sitcom Seinfeld.
Richards provided commentary for the DVDs of the first seven seasons of Seinfeld and made non-commentary contributions for the two following seasons.
Notable Film Roles
Aside from Seinfeld, Richards gained notoriety playing Stanley Spadowski alongside "Weird Al" Yankovic in the 1989 film UHF. While Seinfeld was on the air, he also appeared in Airheads and Trail and Error.
Racism Scandal
In November 2006, while Richards was being heckled during a comedy performance at West Hollywood's Laugh Factory, he lashed out at the hecklers, using racial slurs and making references to lynching.
Richards later appeared on the Late Show with David Letterman and Jesse Jackson's radio show to apologize for the incident. He explained that he was trying to be outrageous in an attempt to quell the hecklers, but that it backfired.
