• Swimmer Michael Phelps is the top Olympic gold medal winner of all time. Phelps won his fourteenth overall gold medal on August 17, 2008, in the 4 x 100 medley relay.

  Phelps has now broken Mark Spitz's record of seven gold medals in a single Olympic games. With a win in the 4 x 100 medley relay, Phelps set the record for most gold medals in an Olympic season. The only event in 2008 in which Phelps did not set a world record was the 100 meter butterfly.
