  • Singer and songwriter Michael McDonald plays with the bands The Doobie Brothers and Steely Dan. He has collaborated with many artists and has enjoyed a moderately successful solo career.
  • The beginning

    McDonald played in many different bands in high school including Mike and the Majestics, Jerry Jay and the Sheratons, The Reebtoors, and The Guild. His first major gig was performing back up singing on the Steely Dan album Katy Lied in 1975.

  • Now a Doobie

    Later that same year he was recruited by The Doobie Brothers as their lead singer became ill. After Johnston recovered, they kept McDonald as a full time member of the band. The McDonald era proved to the the most popular period with the band boasting hits like "What a Fool Believes", "Minute by Minute", and "Taking It to the Streets." He left The Doobie Brothers in 1982 to begin a solo career.

  • Flying solo

    His first solo hit was released in 1982, a duet with his sister Maureen "I Keep Forgettin." In 1985 he relased another duet, this time with James Ingram titled "Yah Mo B There." Together they won a Grammy Award for Best R&B; Performance by a Duo or Group with Vocals.
