American screenwriter, producer and film director Michael Mann was nominated for four Academy Awards for his 1999 film, The Insider. He began his career in 1975 as a writer for the television series Starsky & Hutch and made his feature film directorial debut in 1981 with The Thief, which starred James Caan.
Mann went on to produce many films and television series including The Last of the Mohicans, Heat, Collateral and both the Miami Vice (TV Show) and movie versions of Miami Vice.
