Michael Lewis actually met Oher at one of his friends' houses right as the young man was being discovered as a talented football player. The two of them went out to dinner along with Lewis' wife, Tabitha and Oher started telling his story to them. Tabitha convinced Michael to write this kid's story, and a few short years later, The Blind Side was born.http://www.vanityfair.com/online/oscars/2009/11/michael-lewis-explains-the-origins-of-the-blind-side.html
