Michael Jackson's memorial service took place on Tuesday, July 7, 2009, at the Staples Center in Los Angeles, California. Los Angeles News. The service began at 10:00 a.m. and was broadcast at the Nokia Theatre in L.A.http://www.etonline.com/news/2009/07/76019/ 11,000 free tickets were available to the public for the Staples Center with an additional 6,500 for the simulcast for the Nokia Center. Fans could register for the random drawing for free tickets at StaplesCenter.com through 6:00 p.m. PST on July 4, 2009. The memorial was available live on television and on the Internet.
Jackson was photographed rehearsing at the Staple Center shortly before his death.
